This notice is to inform families that the USDA has required all districts to adopt a meal charge policy. This requirement is necessary due to the outstanding and uncollectable debt incurred by school food services. School food service operations are self-funded and should not rely on the district for financial help. It is our intention and desire to feed all students, however, when charging occurs and it is not repaid, it places a financial strain on the department that can’t be supported.
Effective June 1, 2023, our district charge policy will be that students may charge their breakfast and/or lunch, when necessary, with the understanding that the unpaid balance will be paid as soon as possible. Any outstanding balance will be added to school fees at the end of the year. Students will not be allowed to borrow for ala carte items. In effort to comply with USDA requirements, we’re providing this written communication to you. Additionally, you should receive a ParentSquare communication from your child’s building Food Service Supervisor informing you of our district charge policy. The policy is also available on our district website. Parents are encouraged to set up an account using our online PaySchools Central site. You can monitor balances and put money on your student’s account at no cost to you, as well as set up to receive email alerts for a low balance in your child’s account.
